Owner, Mary Faustino

The Cake Engineer is a Custom Cake Shop offering “dreamed by you, engineered by us” cupcakes, cake pops, cookies and other confections. We operate out of a fully licensed and health inspected kitchen. Everything is made to order using the best ingredients. We create each cake with the client in mind, basing it on their likes, wants and needs. We are honoured to be invited into our clients’ special life celebrations and treat each event as if it were our own. This company is our Dream Come True so we strive to make every cake, and the accompanying moment, be your dream come true too.

Mary Faustino - The Cake Engineer

Graduated, with distinction, from the Cake Design program at Bonnie Gordon College of Confectionary Arts in 2012. Before that, Mary graduated with diplomas in both Chemical Engineering Technology and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineering.

Company Mission

Our motto is "The Cakes Taste As Good As They Look". To live into this promise The Cake Engineer is committed to using the best ingredients and making all of our products from scratch. Add in a dash of design, a pinch of magic and a whole lot of heart and the result, according to our satisfied clients, is that we have delivered on our promise. We want our clients’ celebration to be special. Seeing a child's or brides eyes light up when they see their cake is the reason we do what we do.

Wedding Cakes

Your wedding is such a magical time in your life, it’s one of those days that you want to remember and cherish forever. We love our wedding couples at The Cake Engineer and are truly excited to bring each couple’s cake vision to life. We truly care as much about the taste as we do about how the cake looks, so you know that you are making the right choice when you put your trust in us to engineer your dream wedding cake.


Steps involved in ordering your wedding cake:

  • Step 1: Initial discussion will involve pricing and availability of The Cake Engineer for your wedding date. If we are available, and the pricing suits your needs then we move forward with the process.
  • Step 2: Mary Faustino will schedule a meeting with you to discuss your cake vision. Feel free to bring photos, pieces of décor, or anything that may contribute to your vision of your wedding cake. Mary will create some sketches based on all of the above.
  • Step 3: If the designs are accepted, a complimentary tasting will be scheduled. This is the final step in the process before a deposit is required and the date is confirmed. Cakes under $500.00 require a 75.00 deposit, cakes over $500.00 require a $125.00 deposit.


Wedding Cake Pricing:

Base price for wedding cakes is $4.25 a serving. Each tier of cake will have a minimum of 3 layers of cake with 2 layers of filling and each tier stands at least 4 inches in height. That includes standard decorations, which include either buttercream or fondant and things like ribbons, fantasy flowers, bows, swiss dots, piped swirls, etc. If you have a more detailed design in mind that includes things like true to life sugar flowers, 3D molding, intricate piping, etc. the base price will change. This is based on the amount of time it takes and materials required above and beyond the standard cake.


Wedding Cupcakes:

Standard Cupcakes are $2.50 each. Minimum order is 1 Dozen. Depending on the orders already on the go for that date, there may be a restriction of one flavour per dozen but that can be discussed at time of ordering. Custom topped cupcakes are priced based on complexity of design.

Wedding Cake Delivery:

We do NOT charge delivery within the city of Guelph. We will deliver outside of Guelph for a small fee which is based on the distance from our Shop to the wedding venue.


Wedding Cake Pops:

Standard cake pops are $2.50 each. Custom cake pops are priced based on complexity of design.

Special Occasion Cakes

At The Cake Engineer we LOVE all celebrations and treat them as if they were our own. From 1st birthdays to 50th Wedding anniversaries, we have cake ideas and options for every occasion. We love all of our clients and are truly excited to be able to add something special to each of your life’s celebrations. We truly care as much about the taste as we do about how the cake looks, so you know that you are making the right choice when you put your trust in us to engineer your perfect celebration cake.


Steps involved in ordering your Special Occasion cake:

  • Step 1:Initial discussion will involve pricing and availability of The Cake Engineer for your special date. If we are available, and the pricing suits your needs then we move forward in the process.
  • Step 2: Mary Faustino will discuss design options with you. If an in person meeting suits your occasion best then this will be scheduled. Depending on the celebration and what is being requested this can also be handled over the phone or email. Feel free to send photos or anything you have seen that may contribute to your vision of your cake. If you have no idea, that’s ok too…we will create something from scratch based on our conversations. Either way, Mary will create a design for you based on all of the above.
  • Step 3: Once the design is finalized, a deposit is required to confirm your date. The deposit depends on the price of your order.


Special Occasion Cake Pricing:

Special Occasion Cupcakes:

Standard cupcakes are $2.50 each or $25.00 a dozen. Minimum order is 1 dozen. Depending on the orders already on the go for that date, there may be a restriction of one flavour per dozen but that can be discussed at time of ordering.
Custom topped cupcakes are priced based on complexity of design.

Special Occasion Cake Pops:

Standard cake pops are $2.50 each. Custom cake pops are priced based on complexity of design.

Special Occasion Cake Delivery:

Celebration cakes are expected to be picked up unless otherwise arranged.
We will deliver outside of Guelph for a small fee which is based on the distance from our shop to the party location.

Flavours

At The Cake Engineer we make our cakes and fillings from scratch, the way our grandmothers used to do it. One thing that sets us apart in our area is that we use real buttercream, which does NOT contain icing sugar. It is very silky and smooth and does not have that “hurt your teeth” level of sweetness. It’s our secret weapon and its one of the many qualities that keep our customers coming back time and time again.


Cupcake and Cake Flavours:

Vanilla, Moist Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Banana, Lemon, Carrot, Chocolate Coconut.
We can do any of these flavours in Gluten free as well and also accept other food sensitivity requests.
Custom flavour requests are also welcome.


Cake Pop Flavours:

Chocolate, Vanilla, Banana, Chocolate Coconut.
They can be covered in either milk, dark or white chocolate.
Custom flavour requests are also welcome.


Buttercream Flavours:

Vanilla, Chocolate, Tart Lemon, Strawberry, Raspberry, Coconut.
Custom flavour requests are also welcome.
All fruit buttercreams are made with real fruit puree so they taste like the fruit, we do NOT use artificial flavourings.

Other Toppings/Fillings:

Buttercream Frosting (this is the icing sugar based one), Chocolate Ganache, Cream Cheese Frosting, Fresh Fruit.
Custom flavour requests are also welcome.
